spoons | I drove the Prowler today and got caught in the rain when I was coming home. The car sat for a few hours and when I tried to start the car it would not turn over. The battery has plenty of juice, the radio and all the lights work. When I turn the ignition switch the interior lights flicker and it sounds like a tack hammer bagging close the the firewall and the engine never starts. I think it is either the Starter or the Solenoid? How can I tell which one it is? Where is the starter and the solenoid located on our Prowlers? I searched POA for a possible solution, but I did not find anything really worth while. I appreciate any help you guys/gals can offer. ------------------ Brian K. jd2ksilver | If I remember right the starter/solenoid is driver side. But these are not your older style starter assy. There is a relay involved at the main fuse block behind the side panel. The manual says, under testing solenoid, chatter means loose connections. Hope that's the case. Good luck. I think yours would be the first I have heard of a starter problem. |
jd2ksilver | You can swap out another relay to see if that is your problem. |
Stace | My car does the exact same thing!!! TICK TICK TICK TICK I found out that if I keep ticking, it eventually starts. I am going to check all the connections before I take it to the dealer |

I had other cars that did this and it was always the power connection to the starter.... it always seemsed to happen after it got wet... took off the lead, cleaned it up ... good as new... good luck |

phil2237 | IF THE STARTER IS CLICKING.... CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE & BATTERY CABLE CONNECTIONS.. CHECK CONNECTIONS AT STARTER ALSO..ALSO CHECK GROUND FROM FRAME TO ENGINE... STARTERS USUALLY CLICK DUE TO LOW VOLTAGE (NOT ENOUGH POWER TO FULLY ENGAGE THE SOLINOID)... |
spoons | It ended up being a bad connection on the negative (black) end of the battery. The contact between the wire and the battery connected was corroded and saturated with water. Solution: Cleaned all the battery contacts and wires and coated them with Di-Electric Grease. Thanks for all your help. |
catfish | ck. your cable connections,thought they were tight but werent,the neg had stretched a little from being on/off,and had to put a small shim ,to make it tight. ------------------
